We offer a broad based farm and horse service – run by two experienced vets; no inexperienced assistants acting as backup. We keep our overheads down, and so we can keep our charges down.
We run a transparent invoicing system – hand written monthly worksheets, showing all visits and drugs in detail, showing our markup on all large volumes of drugs, and computer written invoices and statements. The worksheets are useful to farmers and horse owners; the invoices and statements are useful to bookkeepers and accountants.
We get the invoices in the post by the second or third of each month queries and errors are dealt with very promptly. Click here for an example August 2007 horse practice worksheet.
Health Plans - We provide health plans for cattle and sheep using " Good Health Plans", a program made especially for beef and sheep farming. Costs involved are charged by the hour - a yearly update is recommended.
Calvings and lambings please see the update page here
Hoof trimming - vets practising in Switzerland see cows with problem feet almost every day so Urs is used to paring feet and likes doing it. He does trimming with hoof knives and an angle grinder. Good stocks or crushes are always a help and keep the costs down.
Vasectomies. We have been doing a few - well used they'll produce a tight lambing pattern and a heavier crop. The down side is that if this heavy tight lambing coincides with a spell of bad weather, the bad weather problems are magnified. The best way seems to be do ram lambs in September - £25 a head including general anesthetic. Teaser rams are identified at the time of surgery.
Breeding work. Colin has postgraduate qualifications in studwork - he's well used to critical foalcare, early pregnancy diagnosis, twin elimination, vulva surgery and all the other routine stud problems.
Artificial Insemination. Please see our dedicated page here
Lameness. We offer an integrated service - history, clinical examination, nerve blocks, X-rays and scans, all at your yard. When stuck (once or twice a year) we go on to scintigraphy or joint scoping; for this we like to refer them to Jonathan Wainwright.
Dentistry. Urs has been on the dentistry courses and we've upgraded our equipment. We can offer a complete one stop service - floatings, re-alignments, tooth extraction in standing sedated horses, and sedation as and when needed all done by appointment at your yard.
